Being able to export iPhone contacts to a .CSV file is very useful in many situations
For example to sync iPhone contacts TO Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo!, Hotmail,...
So, let's get started
Export .CSV
- Connect your iPhone to your Computer ( iTunes should open up automatically. If not, launch it from Start->All Programs->iTunes->iTunes )
- Click your iPhone in the "Devices" section on the left
- Click the "Info" tab
- Check the "Sync contacts with" option and select "Windows Contacts"
- Press the Windows + R keys from your keyboard and type wab
Now, the rest of the procedure slightly differs depending on your operating system
XP
- Click File->Export->Other Address Book
- Then, select Text File ( Comma Separated Values ) and select Export
- Give a name to the export file ( typically "Desktop" ) and browse for its location
- Click Next and select the fields you want to export
- Click Finish and then Close
Vista / 7
- Click the arrows >> next to "Share with" and select Export
- Select CSV ( Comma Separated Values ) and click Export
- Give a name to the export file ( typically "Desktop" ) and browse for its location
- Click Next and select the fields you want to export
- Click Finish and then Close
All set !
Now, in case you need to Restore iPhone contacts from computer, the .CSV you just exported will be very useful
But, first, you need to import your .CSV to either Gmail or Yahoo
Import .CSV to Gmail
- In your Gmail account, click "Contacts"
- From the "More actions" dropdown menu, select "Import"
- Click "Choose File", locate your .CSV and finally click "Import"
- From now on, you can Sync iPhone contacts with Gmail contacts
Import .CSV to Yahoo
- In your Yahoo account, click Options->Mail options->Contacts options
- Then, click "Import / Export"
- Click "Browse", locate your .CSV and finally "Import now"
- You can now Sync iPhone contacts with Yahoo! contacts

- On your iPhone, go to Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars->Add Account->Other->Add CalDAV Account
- Fill the 4 required fields as follows:
- Domain: carddav.address.yahoo.com
- Username: your Yahoo! ID, for example your.name@yahoo.com
- Password: your password for this Yahoo! account
- Description: Yahoo
- Tap "Next" and you should be all set
Notes & possible issues
- This solution does not require Outlook
- Depending on your iPhone version, some characters in the password may cause problems to set up a CalDAV account ( typically "#" and white spaces )
- Once you complete the above procedure, your iPhone will synchronize with Yahoo! Contacts every time you connect your iPhone to your Computer
- In case of any iPhone Contacts synchronization problems, on your iPhone go to Settings->Safari->Clear Cookies and restart the Contacts application ( if your iPhone supports multi-tasking, make sure you have actually closed the Contacts app )

- Fill the 4 required fields as follows:
- Email: your Hotmail address, for example your.name@hotmail.com
- Domain: [ Leave this blank ]
- Username: your Hotmail address again
- Password: your password for this Hotmail account
- Tap "Next"
- A new field called "Server" appears. Fill it as follows:
- Server: m.hotmail.com
- Tap "Next"
- Select the Hotmail services you wish to sync ( Mail, Calendar, Contacts )
- Tap "Done"
Notes & possible issues
